Listening to Song Samples

Song samples are available for many of the CDs available at CDJapan. shicho button icon is displayed for CDs with samples. Either Flash Player or Windows Media Player is needed to listen to them as detailed below.

Flash Player

+Requirements
  1. Music Player
    Flash Player is needed to listen to song samples.
  2. System Requirements: OS/Browser/Flash Player
    Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, Vista / Internet Explorer 6, 7, Firefox 2 / Flash Player 8,0,22 or newer
    Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 / Safari 2, 3, Firefox 2 / Flash Player 8,0,22 or newer

    *In some cases, song samples may not play, depending on your PC settings, even if above requirements are met.
    Firewalls and security programs installed on your company or school's network may prevent you from listening to song samples.

    Windows XP SP2 / Internet Explorer 7 / Flash Player 9
    Macintosh OS X 10.4 / Safari 2 / Flash Player 9

    Listed below are details on recommended system requirements for listening to song sample optimally.
      For Windows
    CPU: Intel Pentium 4 or higher.
    RAM: Minimum of 512MB
    OS: Microsoft Windows XP SP2
    Internet: Broadband Connection
    Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0.x
    Player: Adobe Flash Player 9,0,47,0

      For Macintosh
    CPU: Power PC G4/Intel Core Duo or higher
    RAM: Minimum of 512MB
    OS: Apple Macintosh OS X 10.4 Tiger
    Internet: Broadband Connection
    Browser: Safari 2.0.x
    Player: Adobe Flash Player 9,0,47,0

+Installing Flash Player and Configuring Your PC
  1. Flash Player
    1. Download and install Flash Player (free of charge) to listen to song samples.

      Download Flash Player

      Refer to the "Get support" page on the Adobe Flash Player website for details and help regarding downloading and installing the Flash Player.
    2. Enable Plug-ins
      Plug-ins need to be enabled in your browser.

      For Internet Explorer 6 / 7
      Click on "Tools" and select "Internet Options (O)". Click on the "Security" tab and click on the "Custom level" button. Under "Active controls and Plug-in" options, go to "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and select either "Enable" or "Prompt".

      * If you select "Prompt" you will be prompted whether to allow software such as ActiveX or plug-ins to run when you try to listen to song samples.
      Click "Yes" to listen to song samples.
  2. Enable JavaScript
    JavaScript needs to be enabled in your browser to listen to song samples.

    For Internet Explorer 6 / 7
    Click on "Tools" and select "Internet Options (O)". Click on the "Security" tab and click on the "Custom level" button. Under "Scripting" options, go to "Active scripting" and select either "Enable" or "Prompt".

    *If you select "Prompt" you will be prompted whether to allow software such as ActiveX or plug-ins to run when you try to listen to song samples.
    Click "Yes" to listen to song samples.

  3. Enable Pop-ups
    The sample player will appear in a pop-up window, so you will need to temporarily enable pop-ups to listen to samples.
    However, this setting is unnecessary if your browser is already set to display pop-ups.

    To enable pop-ups in Internet Explorer 6.x :
    Choose "Tools (T)," "Internet Options (O)," "Privacy," and then, under "Block Pop-ups" confirm whether you have set your browser to block or accept pop-ups.

    In Internet Explorer 7, the sample player will open in a new tab.
    In some cases the player may be displayed at an incorrect size. To remedy this you will need to change the way your browser displays pop-ups.

    To confirm that your browser displays pop-ups correctly in Internet Explorer 7 :
    Select "Tools (T)," "Internet Options (O)," and under the "General" tab find "Tabbed Browsing" and select "Settings." Under "Tabbed Browsing Settings" find "Pop-up Window" options and select "Always Open In A New Window."

+Using the Sample Player

Sample Player Usage
Click the Sample icon to display the Sample Player.
You may listen to samples using the following methods:

  • When Selecting a Track
    If the page displays a sample icon(equalizer) for each track on the release, the player will automatically begin to play whichever track you have selected after opening.
    A mark will animate next to the name of the track currently playing.
  • Selecting a New Track In The Sample Player Window
    1. click on the name of the track you'd like to hear in the tracklist of the sample player.
      A mark(equalizer) will be displayed next to the song you have selected.
      The player may need to briefly buffer before playback depending on your system and connection speed.
    2. About the Player Console (See Image 1)
      You may play, pause, stop, or mute the track as well as adjust its volume.

Windows Media Player

  1. Media Player
    Download and install Windows Media Player.

    Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, Vista / Internet Explorer 6, 7, Firefox 2, Netscape, Opera
  3. Enable JavaScript and Cookies
    Both JavaScript and Cookies need to be enabled in your browser to listen to song samples in Windows Media Format.
